The Branch of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (EOD) suggest that you obtain training every year, for at least one hour, on some aspect of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (also known as the Rehabilitation Act of 1973). The reason for this is the technical nature and frequent changes in the law.
Additionally, in accordance with the No Fear Act, we strongly suggest that you obtain some level of training (whether it be beginning or advanced) on at least one of the following subject areas, every 2 years:
- dispute resolution
- managing diverse employees
We also recommend that supervisors and managers take training in a variety of subject matter.
You should ensure that you obtain sufficient training so that you feel you can effectively perform your supervisory/managerial duties. In addition to ensuring that you obtain sufficient training in the more technical areas (interviewing, religious and disability accommodations, accessibility, and employment law), you should also ensure that you obtain training that may be particularly suited for the challenges you face with your team, whether those issues are communication, recruitment, conflict resolution, or something else.
