Science Laboratories

The NCTC Science Laboratories are designed to provide natural resource professionals with an opportunity for advanced training in modern facilities that literally link lab with field, stream and river.

Here, participants receive hands-on training in fisheries and wildlife resources, as well as, water and land management techniques.

Biology Lab - Room 217L

Chemistry Lab - Room 217L
  • General purpose chemistry lab
  • Four fixed stations with sinks, vacuum, air and power
  • 24-32 person capacity at lab work stations
  • Wheelchair accessible work station
  • Ample counter space and sinks located on each side of room
  • Each work station can be outfitted with dissecting or compound microscopes, balances, glassware, necropsy and serology equipment

  • General purpose biology lab
  • 24 person capacity
  • Hard wired overhead LCD projector
  • Instructor microscopes (dissecting & compound) with camera feed
  • Equipped with 12 movable tables
  • Fume hoods and biological safety cabinet
  • Each work station can be outfitted with dissecting or compound microscopes, balances, glassware, necropsy and serology equipment
  • Sinks located on each side of room
  • Wheelchair accessible work station

Aquatic Resources Lab - Room G21L

Aquatic Resources Lab - Room G21L
  • General purpose wet lab
  • Equipped with 12 movable stainless steel tables
  • Ample counter space and SS sinks located on each side of room
  • Walk-in freezer adjacent to loading dock with lift
  • High bay door and drive-up access for equipment deployment to field
  • Field gear such as waders, boots, personal flotation devices (PFDs) and environmental sampling equipment
  • Wheelchair accessible work station
  • Fish holding tank using flow through system
  • 2 Living Stream systems with coolers
  • 2 Fish tanks with chillers using a recirculating aquatic system (RAS)
  • Aquatic organism aquarium rack
  • Animal holding crates and cages

Biological Teaching Collections

NCTC maintains preserved ​specimens of North American  ​species for use in training. The collections’ primary purposes are to support NCTC identification courses and to serve as a source of species information for the public through the National Digital Library (USFWS). 

Taxa included in the​ collections are:
