Supervising Young Adults
in Conservation - Webex Webinar

This course offered by NCTC in partnership with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) is designed for supervisors to develop skills in working with young adults aged 16-25 years. Supervising young adults in seasonal and internship positions can often be a new and challenging experience for even the most seasoned of supervisors; it requires knowledge and understanding of an emerging workforce eager to gain experience and skills in their fields of interest. It also involves developing meaningful jobs, setting expectations and mentoring young people, especially around developing work ethic and professionalism.
Course Goal
The goal of this webinar training is to develop your skills as a supervisor in order to supervise and mentor young adults in development career opportunities in conservation or related careers in DOI and environmental and youth organizations.
Instructors
This course is led by highly knowledgeable staff, Doug Caum and Amtchat Edwards, who have practical hands-on experience working with and supervising young adults in both field-based and office environments.
Doug Caum is the National Director of Education, Training, and Evaluation for the Student Conservation Association (SCA). Doug oversees the development of educational and training materials for SCA programs as well as the tools and procedures for evaluation. Previously, Doug was the Assistant Director for SCA's National Conservation Crew programs.

Prior to joining the Forest Service, Amtchat ran outreach and education programs for SCA, including the DC Urban Tree House. He has helped to produce a myriad of training modules for diverse audiences about everything ranging from Nerdy-to-Dirty.
